Modern Mythologies II
Historically, both the Greeks and the Romans created belief systems that directly related social issues with personified deity's, for instance Ceres, the Greek Goddess of Crops.
This body of work appropriates fashion photography combined with classical painting to represent these mythical characters in a new way. This approach portrays the visual link between them and contemporary global/social problems.

Modern Mythologies
This body of work looks at re-interpretation and relating contemporary social issues to Greek myths, ancient legends, tales and fables.
Using theatrical lighting and props, I have visually retold these well known stories in a new style. The Greek myth of Icarus, (the boy who flew too close to the sun) is used as a metaphor to discuss current problems of skin cancer, sun worshipping and sun bed abuse. This enables the viewer to contemplate the original morals of these ancient tales in relation to modern day scenarios.

Subverting Stereotypes
In this piece of work I was interested in finding out what characteristics make up different peoples identities; how people are viewed or affected by things like social interaction such as racism or media stereotyping. The work is created digitally with the intention of being finally presented as a billboard campaign.

Film Stills
These are two prints from a series of six that were produced as homage to American photographer Cindy Sherman's work of the same name. The work looks at the cinematic stereotypes of women, and plays with the idea of the 'male gaze'. My original images were shot on 35mm film and printed on 12 by 16 inch fibre based paper.

Home Lands
This project was produced in response to a brief that questioned our sense of identity. Using hundreds of digital prints that I have taken in the countries where I have lived – Scotland, Ireland and Bermuda; I created the shape of those countries by cutting up and arranging the prints. The work was then shot on medium format colour film using a Hasselblad camera. These images are digital reproductions of the original shoot.
